DINAGYANG FESTIVAL: TRULY WORLD CLASS

DINAGYANG FESTIVAL: TRULY WORLD CLASS

One commentator called Dinagyang an Olympic of Colors in which it is very true. Yesterday's celebration was indeed a sea of colorful costumes and attires that were truly awe-inspiring as it was spectacular. We are all praises for the festival, the best in the Philippines, even if some of us were only glued on our TV sets while sipping beer in the offing.

One remarkable aspect of the Dinagyang is the so-called PPP or the public-private partnership. It behooves the private sector to contribute their financial resources to make the festival really world class and entertaining while taking unto the government the management of the event and its temporalities. This clique has proven time and again that unity and cooperation is still the key to a resounding success.

The Dinagyang Foundation once more showed their ingenuity and expertise in handling such a big event. What inspired me was how they did it professionaly with nary a glitch that was reported. Their experience too was very evident in handling such complex matters as taking care of all the aspect of the Kasadyahan, Ati-atihan and other Dinagyang events in a week span. We extend our hands in congratulating the minds behind the staging of this year's Dinagyang perhaps the best ever in the history of the festival.

Kudos too to the city PNP for making the event in check and peaceful. The "pasaway" incident was notably minimal this year although there were reportedly many "nagkaralifung sa inum" but what is Dinagyang revelry without it?

It was truly inspiring. We hope that the organizers of our local Salakayan festival and all other local Festivals in the province of Iloilo can take a cue on how to run and manage their local event. We hope too that nobody anymore will have the temerity to announce that their local festival is also world class because there is only one world class festival in the island of Panay and that is the Dinagyang Festival. Any claim of being world class is tantamount to a WORLD CLASS LIE and the one claiming it is a WORLD CLASS LIAR. So, please stop doing it..

Here in Miagao, why not give tax incentives to local business establishments and private land owners to start the public-private partnership rolling? This scheme is perceived to be the answer to the tribes perennial problem of lack of funds. This will encourage the private sector to contribute ample financial support to the tribes that they like and bring out the best in Miagaowanons unity and cooperation.

May we call then the attention of our local Councilors to pass an ordinance to effect this proposal. You know better than I but the people of Miagao will be greatly benefited if you dip your fingers on this PPP aspect for the success of our very own Salakayan festival.

That will surely make everybody happy. Looking forward to the merriment of Salakayan.
